I AM A TEACHER

I am a Teacher is a not-for-profit organisation, aimed at building an alternate and practice-based model for teacher education. This model has the potential to transform and reinvent teacher education in the country and thus reform school education. The organisation has recently launched an innovative, one-year programme – the Post Graduate Diploma in Learning and Teaching (PGDLT). This is a residency model and offers a unique synthesis of theory and practice, combining a year-long classroom engagement in select schools with a carefully aligned sequence of coursework. Heritage Xperiential Learning School is the practicing school for this programme.

DISHA INDIA EDUCATION FOUNDATION

Disha India Education Foundation is an initiative striving to redefine education and learning thereby facilitating the re-invention of schools and the education system at large. The idea is to construct a theory of experiential learning, and design an integrated curriculum that uses real-life experiences from the child’s local context as a pedagogic medium for developing knowledge, skills and character.

Disha India‘s work involves designing experiential curriculum and pedagogy, whole school design and development, educational leadership development, teachers’ capacity building and designing learning expeditions for children. Since the last eight years, Disha India has worked intensively with Heritage Xperiential Learning School on the design and implementation of the experiential curriculum and pedagogy. Khoj, an outward-bound learning experience for students is designed and organised by Disha India. The vision of the programme is to enable the child to experience the power of experiential learning in the real context and in the process, invoke the process of self-discovery.

FCBEScola

Conscient Football - a grassroots development initiative undertaken by the Conscient Group with the Heritage Schools network in Delhi NCR, has an exclusive partnership with FC Barcelona soccer club to run the FCBEscola Soccer programme in India. FCBEscola reflects the famed youth development system of FC Barcelona in Spain, globally recognised for its ability to identify, groom and nurture talent such as Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernandez, Gerard Pique and Andres Iniesta, among others. The club plays an integral role in its country's global football success, with many players currently in the Spanish national team. Under this initiative, different programmes are offered that are tailored for all age groups, skill levels and type of youth development. FCBEscola students go through specially designed health, nutrition, fitness and conditioning sessions as well as get opportunities for participation in various domestic and international tournaments.

HERITAGE CENTRE FOR ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP

The school launched the Heritage Centre for Active Citizenship in 2016 as an effort to pass the torch of active and responsible citizenship to each succeeding generation whilst imparting the language of citizenship in the way we learn, discuss, debate, advocate and act on local, national and global issues. Along the way, it hopes to build capacities of students – attitudes, skills, knowledge and frameworks of action and advocacy – needed to be engaged, active and informed citizens.

AUTISM CENTRE FOR EXCELLENCE

The Special Child Trust launched the Autism Centre for Excellence in 2014 to create a programme for children on the Autism Spectrum from ages ranging from three to 15 years. The programme is the first of its kind in India, completely data driven and based on the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA).

ACE has been included as a specialised programme within Heritage Xperiential Learning School campus. The ACE Teacher Training Programme is a robust one and is implemented in two parts: an initial two weeks of intensive training for all incoming teachers and staff that includes all day training for that period, followed by on-going training on a daily basis for an hour each day throughout the working days of the year.

EKAL VIDYALAYA PROJECT

Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation is a non-profit organization involved in education and village development in rural areas and tribal villages of India. The foundation operates on the model single-teacher schools, with the premise of "Ek Shikshak, Ek Vidyalaya" meaning "one teacher for every school.” This resonates passionately with one of the most important values of our Dharma namely “Inclusion”

As we set new benchmarks for Excellence in Education in our country, the group, under the guidance of our Founder Sh. N.C Jain, supports over 150 Ekal Schools across Rajasthan, Sikkim, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. More than 5,000 children are currently being educated through these schools. Apart from basic education needs, other necessities such as books, uniforms, shoes, school bags etc are also taken care of by us. Along with basic education, we ensure that the children are also engaged in games, drawing & painting and yoga & meditation for a more holistic development.

The Heritage Schools recently has also taken up a project to integrate some of the children and the teachers from the Ekal Vidyalaya with the very best that our schools have to offer through exposure trips and training seminars. Trainings include curriculum development, pedagogy and classroom management.

GOVERNMENT SCHOOL PROJECTS

I am a Teacher - Fellowship programme at South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) Primary School, Police Colony, Hauz Khas, is an attempt to recognise and deeply engage with the possibilities of change and improvement in the existing system. It is aimed at transforming classrooms and schools and developing them as more caring spaces where each child matters. The major objectives of the project are to increase enrolment, ensure regular attendance, upgrade the physical and social environment of the school and transform the primary classes into experiential classrooms for deeper learning with an integrated curriculum and empowered teachers.
